Lifetime Surgical Team Heads to the Galápagos Islands for Surgical Mission Trip

At Lifetime Surgical, we believe that exceptional surgical care shouldn't be limited by geography or circumstance. That's why we're proud to announce that members of our team will be traveling to the Galápagos Islands for a surgical mission trip—bringing the same advanced surgical expertise we provide in San Jose and Los Gatos to communities with limited access to surgical care.

Our Mission Team

This humanitarian effort brings together some of the best talent at Lifetime Surgical:

  • Dr. Richard Nguyen — Board-certified general surgeon with 15,000+ surgeries and 20+ years of experience
  • Dr. Avery Joseph — General surgeon specializing in laparoscopic, robotic, and breast surgery
  • Morgan Carmean, NP — Experienced nurse practitioner and integral member of the care team
  • Nurse from Good Samaritan Hospital — Rounding out the team with critical nursing expertise

Why the Galápagos?

The Galápagos Islands, located approximately 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, are home to roughly 25,000 permanent residents. While world-famous for their unique wildlife and ecology, healthcare infrastructure—particularly surgical care—remains limited. Many residents must travel to mainland Ecuador for surgical procedures, facing significant costs, travel time, and delays in care.

What We'll Be Doing

During the mission trip, our team will:

  • Evaluate patients who have been identified as needing surgical care
  • Perform surgical procedures, including hernia repairs, gallbladder surgeries, and other general surgical operations
  • Provide post-operative care and follow-up instructions to local healthcare providers
  • Collaborate with local medical professionals to share knowledge and techniques
  • Assess ongoing surgical needs in the community for future planning

Surgery That Goes Beyond Our Walls

For Dr. Nguyen, this mission trip reflects the core philosophy that has guided Lifetime Surgical for nearly two decades: every patient deserves access to skilled, compassionate surgical care.

For Dr. Joseph, the trip represents an opportunity to give back early in her career while growing as a surgeon. And for Morgan Carmean, whose dedication to patient care is felt by every patient at Lifetime Surgical, this mission is a natural extension of the compassion she brings to work every day.
